Known as the “sleepy town”, a drive down to Kuala Kubu Bharu will greet you with backdrops of mountains, lush greenery and historical buildings. Kuala Kubu used to be a well-known tin mining settlement back in 1883, before a storm broke the dam which flooded and destroyed the entire town. However, it was rebuilt again in the 19th Century – the town was renamed to Kuala Kubu Bharu – and has since become an attractive tourist spot offering numerous activities to do.
10 Outdoor Activities And Food At Kuala Kubu Bharu
1. White Water Rafting
Take a white water rafting adventure at one of the best rivers here known as Hulu Selangor river. The river is graded as level 4 – 5, and will take you around 4 hours to complete the 8km journey. Gather your friends and family then check out Xventure Mind social media pages below to book a slot!

2. Bridge Rope Swing & Zipline
Those that want to conquer their fear of heights can check out the Bridge Rope Swing and Zipline. Jump and freefall 60m off a bridge with picturesque views above the Selangor river, that will swing you back and forth as you reach the bottom. 3. Sungai Chilling Waterfall
Dubbed as one of the most impressive waterfalls in Selangor, it takes about an hour and a half of moderate hiking to get to the waterfall. The route will require you wade across the Chilling river 6 times, with ropes to help you balance without falling in. You will also find schools of fish swimming around the crystal clear river water that you can feed by buying fish food at the entrance.
4. Sungai Selangor Dam (Stargazing and Scenic Views)
You won’t miss this huge water reservoir as you drive towards Fraser Hill. There are two options to enjoy its scenery: either park by the roadside and walk along the sides of the bridge, or head towards the look out point located here. Those that want to stargaze will be glad to know that this spot is perfect due to the absence of any external light after dusk.
5. Sungai Luit by the Temuan
To find this particular river, head towards the Bukit Kutu Parking and the path to enter this river will be on your right (third photo below). Some parts of the river are deep enough for you to dip your entire body, whereas other parts are shallow enough for you to enjoy a relaxing time.
6. Bukit Kutu
The hike from the carpark to the peak of Bukit Kutu (1050m high) will take you around 3 – 4 hours, totaling a distance of 6km. Upon reaching the top you will find a boulder where you can stand atop, with amazing views of Titiwangsa mountain ranges and the Selangor Dam.
7. Hot Springs
On top of waterfalls and rivers, Kuala Kubu Bharu also has a cute little hot spring pond located in Taman Arif, that the public can use for free. The water is hot but still bearable, and it doesn’t have the strong sulfur smell that you get with other hot springs. Locals recommend going past midnight to enjoy the starry nights while dipping your feet in!
8. Teng Wun Bakery & Confectionery (Kaya Puffs & Durian Cakes)
This iconic bakery located in the heart of Kuala Kubu Bharu has been attracting tourists and locals with its famous kaya puffs since 1979. Apart from kaya puffs, they do serve other pastries and cakes such as their delicious durian cake. They open early at 9AM, so why not get a few puffs to enjoy on your hike!
9. Delicious Wild Boar Curry (Economy Rice) – Opposite Pejabat MARA Daerah Hulu Selangor
If you’re looking for a simple but delicious economy rice meal in town, check out this unnamed shophouse located right opposite Pejabat MARA Daerah Hulu Selangor. It is a family shophouse that serves a delicious wild boar curry among a variety of other dishes. This is an affordable and great spot to eat at after your hike!
10. Cendol Pak Samat
Cool down in the hot weather with some ice-cold cendol from Cendol Pak Samat! Apart from the original, they offer a variety of fruit, ice cream and durian cendols. You can also find fried snacks such as keropok lekor, curry puffs and more.
