Hello there friends! We’ve all heard of the saying which goes: follow your dreams. But if we take a quick reality check, often we will find that passion doesn’t pay well therefore it seems more practical to brush it aside. However, there is always an exception to every story. And such is this of a Malaysian banker retiree who has decided to pursue his passion, cake-baking. Here’s the story of Banker2Baker, keep your eyes glued.
Banker2Baker Creates Majestic Cakes From Scratch
Zulkiflee Mawan, now 56 years old, was previously a manager at Bank Negara Malaysia. He spent 25 long years in the risk management department and shortly after he took on the life of a retiree, he has decided to pursue his passion for cake-baking.
And like a majority of us, Zulkiflee started from the very bottom with zero experience in cake-baking. He merely thought that cupcakes are intriguing, which led him to sign up for baking classes. Soon after, Zulkiflee attended Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in Paris to hone his pastry skills. Then, he took up flower moulding techniques from famed cake artist Naomi Yamamoto, in Tokyo.
With skills and passion at hand, Zulkiflee went on to open his very own boutique cafe at Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur by aptly naming it Banker2Baker. To date, the bakery with a humble beginning has created wedding cakes for well-heeled Malaysians such as our former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad as well as our Health Director-General, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Enough of words, let’s feast on some of Zulkiflee’s jaw-dropping creations! The photos alone are tempting enough for us to book our own customizable cakes from him, don’t you think?
It’s Not Just Cake, It’s A Creation
So, in case you’re looking for a stunning cake for any occasion, don’t forget to try out Banker2Baker. We guarantee the cake will be too pretty to eat. As of right now, Zulkiflee is offering free delivery on Fridays and Saturdays for his baked goods in the Kuala Lumpur area.
