The Haven For Cat Lovers
This cat sanctuary spans over 4 hectares of grassy land. The founder, late Tengku Lokman Nadzira Tengku Husin, or better known as Ayah Engku operated Meow Island since 2013. Turning a bare land at Pulau Keladi, Pekan Pahang, into a place where stray cats are loved just as much as household pets do.
Requires RM7,000 A Month To Support The Sanctuary
During the time when he was still alive, Ayah Engku gave his full commitment to tend the strays. Depending highly on donations, the sanctuary has to spend at least RM7,000 a month to just provide food and treatments to the animals. “I won’t pick cats based on their breed, if I see a sick cat or an abandoned one, that’s all that matters. I’ll rescue it.” is one of his catchphrases that warms the hearts of many. Currently, his former workers are continuing his legacy.
Every Cat Is Up For Adoption
Thanks to the help of volunteers that come over the years, the sanctuary is now filled with small colourful huts. Meanwhile, the sanctuary is also home to several other animals as well. So don’t be surprised if you catch a glimpse of goats, dogs, or any other farm animal in there. In addition, you will be glad to know that every cat in the sanctuary is up for adoption. But you have to pass a ‘parenting test’ to be able to adopt one. But every stray cat worth as much as the ones in the pet store. So if you are nearby, make sure to give them a visit okay?
