Just a few months old, Zen by Mel is one of the latest omakase spaces in KL where Japanese meets Western. If the name rings a bell, that’s because its sister is none other than CC by Mel, popular Japanese fusion café in Bukit Jalil and 163 Retail Park.
Japanese And Western Cuisine Elevated, Omakase-Style
With a literal “zen” setting, the restaurant serves just 12 at a time for an intimate experience. Its interior is minimalistic with Japanese elements peeking through.
There’s also a private room, aptly named “Zen’s Chamber” that holds 4-6 pax.
Helmed by the young Chef Jordan, you’ll be able to delight in an 11-course Niisho menu at RM498/pax consisting:
- Seitaikei Tart
- Adventure of Amaebi
- Hotate Picasso
- Ahiru Ume
- Shiro Umami
- Eden of Zen
- Aji No Shinen
- Zenraishii
- Yuzu on Mount Fuji
- Imperial Zencha
- Mittsu Hoshi Wagashi
Overall, each course was constructed with plenty of flair and elegance – you’ll be left curious to return for more in the future. The menu also changes according to the seasons in Japan, so expect a different menu with each visit.
You may also pair your omakase meal with some of their wine or sake selections, or opt for an alcohol-free drink instead. There are only two sessions for the entire room daily, from 6-8pm and 8.30-10.30pm so be sure to arrive early!
