Every year, millions of women around the world is affected by breast cancer. According to the Malaysian National Cancer Registry Report 2007 – 2011, breast cancer accounted for 32.1% of all female cancers in Malaysia. While survival rates are improving, the situation remains serious as statistics indicate that one in every 30 women are at risk of contracting breast cancer in her lifetime.
With this realisation, Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur will be teaming up with National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) this October in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, or “Pink October” as it is affectionately known around the world, to raise awareness of breast cancer while lending a helping hand to women who are battling breast cancer.
Throughout the entire month of October, guests can look forward to the “October Afternoon Chari-Tea” at Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur – a unique spin on the classic Afternoon Tea offering at Altitude, which is located on level 53 of the hotel, offering a calming environment for an afternoon tea session with dear friends and loved ones, with spectacular views of Kuala Lumpur’s glorious skyline.
True to the Banyan Tree iconic brand of hospitality, the afternoon tea experts at Altitude are leaving no stone unturned for this meaningful initiative, and have put together a scintillating treat for all the senses – featuring the colour pink, nonetheless – with a variety of classic, savoury and sweet favourites, which is poised to please even the most discerning of connoisseurs.
More importantly, however, besides indulging in a truly unique afternoon tea experience, guests can also take heart as they enjoy the delectable spread knowing that they are contributing towards a benevolent cause.
“This is because 10% of all proceeds from the “October Afternoon Chari-Tea” will be channelled towards National Cancer Society Malaysia for the sponsorship of women from low-income households to undergo mammogram screening at NCSM centres.”
“Every 15 seconds, a woman somewhere in the world is diagnosed with breast cancer. Even in Malaysia, the statistics are very concerning. While many cases can be effectively treated with early detection, many women, especially from the low-income community simply cannot afford the costs of undergoing screening, often only realising too late, by which time treatment can become more complicated,” said Anders Dimblad, General Manager of Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur.
“Through this collaboration with National Cancer Society Malaysia, we hope to utilise the funds, derived from proceeds from the ‘October Afternoon Chari-Tea’ initiative, to be able to sponsor, for breast cancer screening, 25 women from households with a monthly income of less than RM5000 (as identified by NCSM) regardless of their cultural background. If any abnormality is detected during screening, we will consider sponsoring them again for a second-stage 3D Ultrasound screening if the costs are within our collected fund.”
“This is why we encourage as many people as possible to participate in this truly unique initiative, knowing that they are truly contributing to a very noble cause which will certainly go a long way towards improving the quality of lives among those truly in need. Meanwhile, we are going all out to also ensure that this will certainly be an afternoon tea experience that will not only be memorable, but will directly impact lives,” added Anders.
To further highlight the commitment of Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur, Anders also iterated that the price charges per serving of “October Afternoon Chari-Tea” at Altitude remains the same as the outlet’s classic afternoon tea offered previously.
Guests who wish to indulge a little further (while still contributing towards the cause for breast cancer) may also opt to pair their tea with a glass of Moet & Chandon Rose Champagne or a glass of Cassiopera Rosato Rose, at an all-inclusive nett price of RM198 and RM143 respectively.
Serving from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, the October Afternoon Chari-Tea will be available daily in October and priced at RM98 nett per person.
