Seated comfortably with an unobstructed view of the city skyline, there is literally no better way to spend a weekend with the gals than by tucking into a wide selection of delectable desserts and sipping on some good tea. Situated in Grand Hyatt, Thirty8 KL is offering an all-you-can-eat afternoon tea spread every weekend in April 2019. As your trusted source for good food, we headed over to give you our full review.

High on Sugar : All-You-Can-Eat Weekend Buffet For Chocoholics

Themed High on Sugar: Chocolate Finesse, their buffet is centred around one ingredient: chocolate (duh!). So if you’re a chocoholic, you’re going to love this a ‘choco-lot’! And the fact that we were able to enjoy our afternoon tea and desserts with unlimited refills was the cherry on top of our dining experience. So fellow foodies, be sure to eat to your heart’s content!

All-You-Can-Eat Afternoon Tea: Delicious Chocolate Desserts to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

Truth be told, we were overwhelmed by the myriad of desserts served and very impressed with the different recipes. Spoilt with choices, we had a hard time deciding which one to go for first. Some of the desserts featured were Chocolate Churros, Gula Melaka Mousse, Pahang Chocolate Banana Cake, Burnt Swiss Chocolate Cheesecake and cake pops among others.

Foodie Approved : Our Personal Favourite

However, the highlight of the buffet was definitely the chocolate shot crafted by the head chef himself – slightly chilled, creamy and with the perfect amount of sweetness to soothe ourselves after a meal of sumptuous warm desserts. It easily became one of the crowd-pleasers in this buffet line and our personal favourite too.

Another notable dessert on the list was the creme brulee which was offered in two different flavours, namely the traditional creme brulee and the Pahang chocolate creme brulee. The chefs will torch your sweet dish upon ordering and what’s better than warm custard topped with freshly caramelised sugar? Don’t be shy and savour every bite of the creme brulee which gets you yearning for more.

Amazing news for our fellow lactose-intolerant foodies! Thirty8KL was considerate enough to include a few dairy-free cakes into the buffet spread. Besides, your taste buds will be in for a treat when you try their chocolate mousse which the pastry chef revealed that it comes with both sweetener or no sweetener option. We tried both and were in awe because flavour-wise, it was almost impossible to tell the difference, meaning we could indulge in this yummy goodness with zero guilt.

Craving For Savoury : A la Minute

An additional perk of our dining experience would be the dishes from the a la minute menu. Alongside the scrumptious chocolatey course, you can go for a number of savoury mains if you need a distraction from the sweets. The options weren’t limited and include steamed sea bass, spring rolls, potato puffs, seafood dumplings shepherd’s pie, beef meatballs and more. We opted for shepherd’s pie together with potato puffs and we definitely recommend the former – the portion served was decent and not too filling to the point we were unable to enjoy the rest of the buffet. If you find that you need to add on, feel free to order as they are unlimited.

All-You-Can-Eat Afternoon Tea: Relaxing Ambience to Fulfil Your Inner Tai Tai

There is nothing more invigorating than spending your weekends high on the 38th floor while catching up with your best friends. With floor to ceiling glass panels surrounding the restaurant, you’re able to take in the view of the Twin Towers directly in front of you.

Meet the Chef : Interactive and Fun

Service was impeccable and the mastermind behind all of these recipes, Chef Rolf Knecht was more than happy to share his extensive knowledge of chocolate and pastries. And trust us, we certainly learned a thing or two! We could tell he was really passionate about his creations which made for an interactive and fun dining experience.

Our Verdict

Overall, this buffet certainly got us high on sugar and we approve. Since you’ve read our review and if this sparks your interest, be sure to give them a try. However, do take note that they are only available every weekend in the month of April 2019, so book your table soon! Priced at RM160 nett for adults and RM80 nett for children, we would say that it’s worth it considering the atmosphere and the food provided.
