Japanese tea enthusiasts and fans of matcha can now enjoy a new haven in Malaysia at Hvala’s first-ever flagship store. Known for its curated matcha offerings and Japanese teas in Singapore, Hvala brings its unique philosophy of ‘ichi-go ichi-e’—celebrating the beauty of the present moment—to Kuala Lumpur. The store offers visitors a tranquil retreat from the bustling city life, where they can embrace mindfulness and relaxation over an authentic cup of Japanese tea or hand whisked matcha beverages and Japanese dessert treats.
The flagship store will feature Hvala’s signature hand-whisked matcha beverages and Japanese delicacies, including warabi mochi, a variety of Japanese-inspired sliced cakes, and vegan gelato.
A Retreat with Handcrafted Teas
Located in the heart of Plaza Arkadia in Desapark City, visitors can enjoy thoughtful design elements inspired by Japanese culture. These include traditional horigotatsu seating and open bar counters that allow them to observe the preparation of their handcrafted matcha drinks. Through its design, Hvala aims to inspire meaningful conversations and leave visitors refreshed by their experience.
Curated Matcha Beverages
Visitors can indulge in a variety of signature matcha beverages, celebrated for their refreshing, traditional Japanese hand-whisked preparation. Highlights include the house specialty, Shiro (white) Matcha Latte, made from handpicked young tea buds and leaves that are naturally dried, unlike regular matcha which uses steam to prevent oxidation. This unique process results in a rich tea aroma with delicate floral notes.
Other premium offerings include the Tsuki Matcha Latte, Yuki Matcha Latte, and the ceremonial-grade Hana Matcha Latte and Kaze Matcha Latte. These handcrafted matcha beverages are priced between RM15 and RM 27.
Small-Batch Japanese Desserts
Fans of Japanese desserts can enjoy warabi mochi, freshly made in small batches with Japanese mochi flour and served with traditional kuromitsu (black sugar) and are available in two flavours such as Kinako (yellow flour made with soybeans) and Yuzu available at RM 15 per serving.
Hvala offers a variety of in-house vegan gelato, crafted in small batches to ensure consistent quality and flavour, reflecting traditional Japanese values. The gelato comes in 12 flavours, including three levels of matcha intensity—M1 (lightest), M2, and M3—all made with Hvala’s house selection matcha powders.
Other standout flavours include Shiro Matcha Azuki (White Matcha Azuki) (Red Bean), Goma (Sesame), Hojicha, Genmaicha, White Chrysanthemum Sobacha, Chocolate, and White Tea Pear. Non-vegan options such as Hokkaido Milk and Yuzu Yoghurt are also available. There is also an option to enjoy the gelato with dairy-free waffles.
Dessert fans can also look forward to a variety of Japanese-inspired sliced cakes, including signature options such as Matcha Yuzu Basque Cheesecake at RM 23.90 per slice, Shiro Matcha Coconut (White Matcha), Ichigo (Strawberry) and Yuzu slice cake at RM 18.90 per slice, or Matcha, Goma (Sesame), and Chocolate, priced at RM 17.90 per slice. These can be enjoyed alongside other Japanese desserts like the Matcha Tiramisu at RM 29.90, and matcha beverages.
