Who doesn’t like scanning QR codes? Well, not us! It certainly makes accessing payments, services and registrations so much simpler amidst the non-stop hustle and bustle.
Johor To Introduce First-Ever QR Code Immigration Clearance System This Year
In recent news, reports have emerged that indicate Johor’s move to implement its very first Quick Response (QR) Code Immigration Clearance System at the Second Link Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) in Gelang Patah and Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) in Johor Bahru by this year.
As reported by the News Straits Times, Johor’s phased QR code immigration clearance system will commence tentatively by June this year. It is expected to reduce the Immigration clearance travel time for at least 400,000 travellers commuting through the checkpoints on a daily basis.
Once implemented, Johor will be the first state in Malaysia to introduce this QR system at international checkpoints. How cool is that!
To date, countries such as Singapore, Canada, China, Brazil, Vietnam, Germany and the United Kingdom have adopted similar QR scanning systems.
On average, processing each entry permit, arrival card and passport would usually take around three minutes, without taking into account the queue time.
Conversely, this processing duration will be significantly reduced by half with the QR code system!
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi expressed the state government’s readiness to improve federal initiatives that target to reduce traffic congestion.
“If the QR clearance system proves to be effective in alleviating congestion at our land checkpoints, it should be implemented without delay,” he said.
Imagine the ease of travelling to Johor if this proves effective! Johor has yet to provide further details on their in-depth plans for the QR system. We hope that they will issue an official announcement soon.
So, who’s excited to travel to Johor once this QR system launches? Travelling would be such a breeze with just a quick scan!
