This New KL Skyscraper Will Be The World’s 2nd Tallest Building Upon Completion In 2021

Today, we’re here to let you guys know that we are once again mapping KL in the international arena. Why? Because in 2021, KL will welcome the world’s 2nd tallest building known as Merdeka 118. Merdeka 118 Set To Be Malaysia’s Tallest Building At 678.9 Meters

This new skyscraper with its official name, Merdeka 118 is also known as PNB 118. The reason for the building’s name is that it’s owned and developed by one of the largest fund management companies in Malaysia, Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB). In addition to that, the building will have 118-stories, hence the name PNB 118.

Set to be the 2nd tallest building in the world, Merdeka 118 measures 678.9 meters, right after the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa at 828 meters.

As for its location, Merdeka 118 will be situated in between Stadium Merdeka & Stadium Negara. The location also contributes to its official name too! Now, we have even more fun facts about Merdeka 118. The design of the building is inspired by the silhouette of Tun Abdul Rahman’s iconic hand-raise while chanting ‘Merdeka’ seven times back in 1963.

So, this building is actually a commemoration of one of Malaysia’s most iconic moments, Hari Merdeka. The architect behind this stunning building is Fender Katsalidis from Australia. Katsalidis was the same architect behind the Eureka building in Australia.

Now, let’s venture a little deeper into Merdeka 118. Essentially, this building will house 83-storeys of Grade A-offices, 17-storeys of Park Hyatt Hotel, and the remaining 18-storeys for an observation deck, VIP lounge, sky lobby, restaurants, and more.

The entire complex will be completed in 3 phases. Phase 1 will be the Merdeka 118 building itself and will be completed in 2021, while the final phase (3 buildings surrounding Merdeka 118) will be completed in 2024.
