In the past week, it is hard to miss reports of floods in Malaysia. The heavy rain has disrupted many lives, causing many Malaysians to struggle just a couple of days before Christmas. Thankfully, many Malaysians have lent a hand to ease the unfortunate struggle. Similarly, some businesses have also been affected by inventories damaged by the floodwaters, including BookXcess.
Millions Of Books Damaged By Flood At BookXcess
BookXcess, a homegrown bookstore chain famous for having discounted books, has been heavily affected by the flood. BookXcess has multiple outlets around Klang Valley, and a warehouse (widely known as Wolf House), located in Shah Alam. During the heavy rain, the lower floor of the warehouse is flooded, causing a power cut. The entire warehouse was in complete darkness.
With millions of books damaged, the founder of BookXcess, Andrew Yap, has estimated a loss of RM30 to RM40 million. The team behind BookXcess has been sharing its journey to recovery on its social media platforms. The first video posted on 21st December, showed damaged books floating in waters. It is accompanied with a lengthy caption that describes the situation that the warehouse is going through.
BookXcess Is Working Hard To Fulfill Orders
Additionally, the caption has stated that all physical outlets are still operating, and the team is currently working on fulfilling online orders, but there will be a delay due to the current circumstances. The post has touched the hearts of many, with outpouring supports from netizens. On the latest update, it shows that the team has been working on cleaning up the space.
