When we think of ramen, we think about love. Memories come and go, but none of us will forget the time we had our first amazing ramen experience. Thanks to Shigemi Kawahara, the founder of Japanese ramen chain IPPUDO, more people will have the privilege of a first-class ramen experience.
Famous Tonkotsu Broth That Will Leave You Satisfied
Famous for their creamy Hakata style Tonkotsu broth, this silky pork bone broth has made a footprint in the culinary world of ramen. Starting off as a humble shop in Fukuoka City back in 1985, the IPPUDO influence has grown to over 60 locations worldwide. Today, we’re visiting one of the 60, in our very own Bangsar Shopping Centre.
IPPUDO Malaysia Offers A Variety Of Tonkotsu Based Ramen
1. Shiromaru Special
Out of all the types of ramen offered here at IPPUDO, the Shiromaru Special comes with the most classic and original Tonkotsu pork broth. This bowl is served with thin ramen noodles, salted soft-boiled egg (ajitama), pork chashu, bean sprouts, wood ear mushrooms (kikurage), spring onions and seaweed. Simple but dense with flavours, this classic is suited for all ramen-lovers alike.
2. Akamaru Special
For those looking for a spicy-kickin’ broth, the Akamaru Special is a great option. Served with the toppings of a “special” IPPUDO ramen: pork chashu, salted ajitama, bean sprouts, seaweed, kikurage and spring onions, this broth comes with a dollop of spicy blended miso paste and fragrant garlic oil for that enhanced spicy umami flavour.
3. Karaka-Men
Here’s where it gets nutty and spicy. Differing from all the other IPPUDO Tonkotsu based ramen, the Karaka-Men comes with a paste blend of spicy miso, ground pork, and bits of cashew nuts. When mixed with the regular toppings such as bean sprouts, spring onions, and pork chashu, this broth presents a very robust-umami flavour.
This ramen comes with the option of four spicy levels: Original, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Pick at your own risk!
4. IPPUDO Kuro Ramen
This ramen is in every way unique because of the different toppings used, and the dark-colored broth it’s served with. The IPPUDO Kuro comes with fragrant garlic oil, black pepper, springy black fungus, thick-chewy noodles, spicy miso paste, bean sprouts, and seared pork chashu. This is the only bowl of Tonkotsu style ramen that is served with seared pork slices and thick noodles.
