A new cafe scene set in the heart of SS2, Extraction was opened back in October 2018. A minimalist vibe just like the name, they offer a list of cafe items ranging from pastas to sandwiches. An alchemy of sourdough and coffee, both are the highlight of this cafe. Sit back, enjoy a cuppa and unwind your afternoon at Extraction.

Cafe hoppers are no stranger to Mei by Fat Spoon, they have a few outlets spreaded across the KL landscape. Serving Japanese fusion fares with a local twist, many raved about their Ox Tongue Rice Bowl. Besides that, Mei serves one unique item on the menu — matcha butter. Mind blowing isn’t it? They’re easily voted on of the best places to eat in SS2, so check them out.

Toast & Roast

If you’ve never tried Hakka noodles, now’s the time. Toast & Roast offer some of the best Hakka noodles topped with char siew (caramelised pork belly) or siew yok (roasted pork). They’re often flocked to the brim by locals mainly during peak hours. Springy egg noodles topped with fried onions, spring onions and your choice of meat (char siew of course!). There’s even a “anything la” on the menu for those indecisive souls, the workers would work out something for you. Toast & Roast is one of those must-eat places in SS2, or you’ll be missing out.

Don’t be fooled by its fancy schmancy name. Laguna is an unpretentious restaurant offering authentic Filipino cuisines. In fact, they’re well praised by Filipinos for its authenticity. Try out their pork dishes and not to miss out Sinigang, a tamarind based pork soup. Ambiance is clean and comfortable, the best part is you can participate in free karaoke.

One of our new discovery of places to eat in SS2, Kooky Cream is an aesthetic dessert spot. The quirky child logo is pretty easy to spot from afar. Step inside and you’ll get that rustic-futuristic vibe, coping vintage into a modern space. They have a nice selection of fresh cakes, where cream-to-cake ratio is very well balanced. Some of special flavors are taro, lychee, and earl grey. If you need to freshen up your feed, look no further than Kooky Cream.

Another worthy places to eat in SS2, Tang Pin has many regulars visiting on a daily basis. They serve homemade fish paste with a firm, fresh texture paired together with noodles. Mee Pok is another bestseller, with ketchup and vinegar based noodles topped with generous amount of pork lards and minced pork. Though the combination might sound off, try it for yourself and you’ll be surprised. End your meal with local desserts such as cendul and tau hua.

Geylang Lor 9 Fresh Frog Porridge is yet another place for comfort food, which opens till late night. They’re the exact branch of the ever famous Geylang Frog Porridge in Singapore. Ordering is simple, get your mains to pair with either porridge or rice. Their stir fried claypot frog offers an abundant of flavors, perfect to pair with porridge to balance things up. While many are intimidated by the idea or eating frog, let us be real. They taste just like chicken with better texture, and once cooked up, you can’t even tell it’s a frog.

Uncle Don’s

If you’re looking for a place to chill after work without burning a hole in your pocket, look no further than Uncle Don’s. In fact, we did a review of it recently, so check it out for details. Set in SS2 with a laid back atmosphere, Uncle Don’s well-known for their happy-hour drinks promotion, and Carlsberg extra cold that will give you the chills. Food wise, affordable and standard is above par. We highly recommend their wild boar curry and cheesy nachos. They’re always full-house, which explains why on this list.

Locals around the neighbourhood sure knows this place, they deliver the ultimate comfort food. While items on the menu is quite limited, try out their bestselling mee sua (noodle in starchy broth). Other choices such as Fried Lye Fun and Seafood Porridge are worth trying out as well. Not to mention their boiled, fresh octopus that comes with special dip. Restoran Teow Chew Meng is one of the places to eat in SS2 that has been around for ages, they’re legendary.
