Not a fan of fancy schmancy desserts? No worries, we have a list of tong shui for you as well. Still desserts but local enough.

#1 Foo Foo

Probably one of the desserts in KL that will blow your mind away taste-wise. Who does desserts like mains? We don’t know, but we definitely have not tried black pepper mango ice cream. Intimidating, yet the flavors combine surprisingly well. One thing you have to try has to be their balsamic vinegar ice cream, it will leave you in awe. Desserts have never been so adventurous at Foo Foo.

#2 Châteraisé

If you’re an anime fan, you might have seen your characters enjoying their afternoon tea at Châteraisé. Your mind would go “what is so special about this pastry shop?” Apparently Châteraisé is one of the best pastry shop in Japan, having 460 stores in the land of rising sun. We’re lucky that they landed here in Malaysia. All their desserts are produced fresh and imported from Japan. They have tonnes of selections and each of them sounds so good. Their bestseller has to be fresh cream cake and strawberry cake.

#3 Shugatori

Cr: @nakmakanmana.ig

A quaint cafe known for waffle desserts in KL, particularly mermaid desserts, hence the fame. Not a mermaid-theme cafe as some claimed, but their cute blue-purple mermaid toast and waffle are to-die-for. Purple-blue ombre cream decorates the charcoal dough, finish off with a scoop of ice cream, mermaid-tail shaped meringue and a side of sauce. It creates a beautiful harmony and tastes great as well. Besides the mermaid, Shugatori offers some great pancakes and waffles as well.

#4 Torikin @ J’s Dining

Cr: @nicefoodmakegoodmood

Ever seen Instagram stories of people digging into a box of matcha-creme pudding? Editor drooled when she first saw it. Turns out it’s Torikin’s matcha tiramisu, also one of the famous desserts in KL. We recommend to just go for their matcha tiramisu and nothing else. Cream-like texture that is smooth and silky using premium Matcha. Not as sweet as it seems, just nice you won’t feel cloying or stuffed. Apparently, it’s a famous dessert in Kyoto, which gives you more excuse to try it.

Desserts are never complete without chocolate. If you grow up watching Charlie and The Cholocate Factory and fantasized about it, you might have a better childhood. From chocolate crepes to waffles, pancakes, brownies, ice cream…..it’s the chocolate dreamland. Try their chocolate crepe and say nothing.

Looking for a place to enjoy your afternoon tea with chic? Dessert Bar by Stanley Choong might just be the place. Though their offerings are limited, their pastries are meticulously crafted. Classy and sophisticated, they serve some of the better desserts in KL. We suggest going for their dessert tower if you come in two, better value and you can to sample more.

#8 Kakigori

Of course, we have to include Kakigori (Japanese shaved ice) into our “Best Desserts in KL” list, we international. They have a few outlets now, but Kakigori is always packed. Soft, fluffy shaved ice of your desired flavors and toppings, some are seasonal and special. Our pick? Matcha and Hojicha of course, best with brulee. It’s like Malaysia’s version of After You. They practice self-service and self-cleaning, which is great to enlighten people to be responsible.

#9 Soft Launch Cafe

Cr: @sharafinashukri

While Soft Launch is one of the cafes serving desserts in KL, they do offer mains for those who are looking for an all-in-one place. So what’s so special about Soft Launch? Their whipped cream strawberry waffles of course. They’re ever so Instagrammable your friends would hit up to ask about the location. Taste wise? Just right. The strawberry balances off the sweetness of waffle and whipped cream. Do try out their soft serve as well, they have flavor such as Chrysanthemum.

#10 Nadeje

Cr: @joleneeeee516

It’s another editor’s must-have desserts in KL (swear to God I really do)! Where else can you find mille crepe cakes better than Nadeje? The only downside of Nadeje is their lack of consistency in every outlet. So, we suggest to just visit Sunway Pyramid and KLCC’s. They have a wide array of flavors to choose from, alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Their rum and raisins, tiramisu and original are simply the best. We heard they came out with premium series that offer one flavor per outlet, very exclusive.
