If you’re a big roti canai fan, you’ll want to check out the popular Mansion Tea Stall. This spot has been around since the 80s and remains a go-to for breakfast in KL. Their signature roti banjir — drenched in dhal and thick curry, topped with runny eggs — is a crowd favourite. For the perfect Malaysian breakfast, pair it with their signature Teh Ding Dong, also known as teh tarik.

Whenever there’s an uncle running a street store, you just know the food’s bout’ to be banging! It’s Apek’s Apam Petaling Street  and it’s run by a 71-year-old uncle that’s been making delicious apam balik for over 40 years! He sells his famous apam balik for only RM1.80 and not to mention, a generous portion of peanuts in them! No wonder customers line up here.

There’s four items on the menu, which are pisang goreng, kuih bakul, sesame balls and curry puffs. Each of his signature pisang goreng is priced at RM1.60 only. Expect to queue in line especially during lunch hour.

7. Lawanya Food Corner

Tucked away in an alley along Jalan Scott, Brickfields, this hidden gem has been drawing crowds with its affordable spread of over 20 homecooked Indian dishes. 🍛 From mutton curry and chicken varuval to fried bitter gourd and pumpkin, the variety is both comforting and flavorful. It’s a family-owned business, with recipes lovingly passed down through generations. Definitely one to check out!

Supper lovers are always seen crowding at this mamak spot tucked inside a humble home at Jinjang, KL. They sell this special Roti 1Malaysia. It’s a crispy roti canai generously filled with Milo powder, crushed peanuts, and cereal. Plus, they serve up other Malaysian classics like Cheese Naan, Nasi Lemak with Ayam Goreng, Maggi Goreng, and more.

It’s almost impossible if you live/work in (or) at Bangsar, you’d probably heard of Annuar’s Fish Head Curry. During lunch hour, customers queue for hours to get a dose of this tenggiri fish head curry that comes with rice and beansprout on the side. They also sell fried chicken which comes highly recommended as well. Seating can be limited so best to takeaway or come early to avoid disappointment.

This popular nasi kunyit spot in Bukit Bintang is particularly famous among the office worker crowd. Part of it is due to its affordability as low as RM8 per plate. Besides nasi ayam kunyit, they also offer beef, squid and a mixture of the proteins. It’s located in a food court on the first floor so you might need to keep your eyes peeled if you’re looking to visit here.

Bak Kut Teh may reign supreme in Klang, but in KL city, there are some hidden gems worth trying like Leng Kee Claypot & Bah Kut Teh Centre. It’s a thick and strong herbal taste pork broth that has kept the customers coming back for more. There’s even a braised version too. Parking can be difficult but you can opt using the MRT as its located just 1min walk away from Sentul Barat station.

Located directly opposite 7-Eleven and often drawing a hungry crowd, OM Burger is the go-to spot for a classic, starting from as low as RM2.  Known for serving some of the juiciest and messiest burgers in town, you can take it up a notch by adding extra cheese, an additional patty, or a generous helping of mayonnaise.

Lok-lok is a comfort snack food but what makes this place stand out from other lok-lok stalls is it’s owned by Indians. They serve 50 items and some even have Indian inspired lok-lok such as masala chicken, tandoori chicken. Each lok-lok starts from RM2.50 to RM5. Try also their 4 types of sauces. Yummy!

One of their specialties here is their rice with super spicy sambal and their kicap fried chicken. Its portion is perfect for one person & is only priced for less than RM10. Get here early if you don’t want to queue up.

This popular nasi lemak is regarded as KL’s best Chinese nasi lemak you can find around the vicinity. They boast a variety of side dishes to go along such as wild boar meat, potato, chicken curry, mutton curry, egg, fried chicken and more. As for the sambal itself, they give generously. Be sure to come early as this place will be packed with customers the moment the restaurant opens.

They have ikan pari, terubuk, siakap, tilapia and cencaru bakar if you want to try them all. This place has had many loyal customers over the years so lunch time you might need patience for your food to arrive. Recommended regardless!

Though the Google ratings are not the best, yet people still flock to this place on a regular basis. They also serve other Chinese style delicacies on their seafood and more.
