According to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the new pedestrian crossing will be at the intersection of Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Bukit Bintang. The new scramble crossing will optimise walkability in the high traffic pedestrian area. Opened to the public over the weekend, on 19th June, pedestrians can already start using the scramble crossing.

Before this, pedestrians had to wait for two different traffic lights just to cross the road, which had probably caused some pedestrians to even jaywalk to save time. With the scramble crossing, it is safe to say that it will be much more time-efficient for those on foot now.

A scramble crossing, also known as an X-crossing, is a pedestrian-crossing system that stops all vehicles from all directions. It then allows those on foot to cross an intersection in every direction, at the same time. Forming a spectacular flood of pedestrians in a unified crossing. The most famous of these intersections has to be the Shibuya crossing in Japan, where hundreds of people cross the street in all directions at once.

Are You Thrilled For This?

Compared to the famous Shibuya Crossing, our Bukit Bintang crossing is cuter and smaller. It may look a little empty now. But who knows, maybe after things get better and people can start to go out safely, it might be quite an incredible scene to view from the top.
