Bubble Tea Plastic Cup Crisis Post Became Viral
A post by Christine Chen on Facebook shared to Zero Waste Malaysia shows the outcome of plastic cups being thrown in a construction dumpster. Accompanying the post, Christine wrote, “My aunt shared this in our group chat. SS15 bubble tea street. I think we should all be more aware of the waste that we are creating. Hopefully, everyone can do their part to help reduce waste!”
Posted on the 29th May 2019, the post has now garnered more than two thousand shares on Facebook. With more than 1, 400 reactions to the post, most people are sad and shocked by the outcome at bubble tea street. Netizens are upset that single-use plastic cups are thrown irresponsibly. So, how are we going to solve this issue? Well, here are some methods!
Instead of using single-use plastic straws, opt for reusable one instead. There are many places selling metal straws that are perfect for bubble tea. A comment from Shayley Hing mentioned that most bubble tea outlets allow your very own tumblers, except for The Alley. So, while you’re at it, bring your own tumblers too! Of course, if you don’t have all of these, remember to dispose of your plastic cups properly.
