Sustaining Local Businesses In The New Normal Through Grab

How are you doing friends? Maintaining a business during the pandemic is not an easy feat. As such, the government worked its way around to keep as many local businesses afloat as they can. And the solution is actually closer than we think. By digitalizing the businesses through Grab, over 2,500 new merchants have embraced the digital economy through the MSME E-Commerce campaign.

More Than RM130 Million Sales Generated Through Grab

In a partnership with the government, Grab launched and joined a handful of campaigns to help local merchants digitalize their businesses. Efforts included are the Grab (loves) Local Heroes campaign, Shop Malaysia Online (SMO) and ePENJANA. As a result, more than RM130 million in sales was generated for local businesses through the campaigns.

In addition, for Grab’s SMO initiative, more than 2 million deliveries were made during the duration of the initiative. Showing the importance of having a digital platform to continue businesses in the new norm.

Encouraging Local Merchants To Go Digital

In hopes that more local businesses are inspired to go digital, the government is pursuing better internet connectivity for the nation. In fact, more than 2,500 new merchant partners joined Grab through the MSME E-Commerce campaign to cope with the new norm. On top of that, there is also the Grab’s (loves) Local Heroes initiative, where 500 merchant partners benefitted from RM2.5 million worth of free advertising space.

Promising Results In Sales And Savings

Participating merchants saw up to 43% increase in sales in less than two weeks since the launch of the initiative and Grab saw an average increase in orders of 24% during the campaign. Moreover, through the initiatives, Malaysians gained savings of over RM90 million during this period.

As shared by Sean Goh, Managing Director of Grab Malaysia, “As we enter this new frontier, we are committed to continuing our efforts to support these local businesses who are the backbone to the nation’s economy”. Hopefully, with these results, more local entrepreneurs are inspired to step up their game and go digital.
