The Ship Founder Learned How To Cook Western Food While Working On A British Merchant Ship

Before the late founder, Mr. Foo Hee Hoon, started this restaurant, he worked on a British merchant ship as a kitchen assistant. Over the years, he rose up the ranks to become a chef on-board, where he started cooking steaks and other Western delights for the British. Mr. Foo then used his learned knowledge to open the brand’s first restaurant in Jalan Sultan Ismail, which is now succeeded by the third generation of the Foo family.

Steaks At The Ship Are Air-Flown From Australia And New Zealand

While the steaks are the most popular items on their menu, their appetizers and other classic dishes can’t be missed. Here are some of their best-sellers!

1. Charbroiled Rib Eye Steak

The most popular item on their menu is undoubtedly their Charbroiled Rib Eye Steak. The juicy rib eye is grilled over a fiery flame that gives it a smokiness you’d want in a great steak. It’s served with corn on the cob, prime vegetables, a bowl of salad, and a baked potato topped with sour cream and chicken bacon bits.

2. Fillet Steak Flambee Au Brandy

Next on the must-try list is their famous Fillet Steak Flambee Au Brandy that’s served the same way since 1972. The dish comes with a fire show by lighting the steak and white mushroom gravy with brandy right beside your table, before serving it on your plate. The flambee method adds a different liquor flavour profile to the steak!

3. Garlic Toast And Escargot Bourguinonne

If you could only choose two appetizers from their menu, it should be the Garlic Toast and Escargots. The garlic bread comes with a big baguette that’s topped with large amounts of garlic butter, and the french snails are broiled in a chablis garlic sauce.
