These tucked away bars are meant to be kept hidden to create an exclusive atmosphere to reminisce the prohibition era in the US. These places could give you one of the best speakeasy bars experience yet!

1. The Attic Bar

Situated near the bustling area of Petaling Street, Travel Hub Guesthouse’s bar on the third level is definitely a discreet destination for drinkers.  To get to the bar, you’ll have to go through the guesthouse on the first floor to the back and climb a spiral staircase up.

The bar is decorated in DIY-style with birdcages, light fixtures, bean bags and bare-bricks. Drinks here start from RM10, where the classic cocktails are RM24. This bar also serves ‘Game of Thrones’ inspired cocktails which makes it unique! It is a perfect spot to chill over a drink.

2. P&C Cocktail Bar

This hidden bar does not have a menu because they operate under the omakase concept. You’ll receive a double-columned placard with the first column listing a range of flavours and tastes and the other column listing out base liquors such as brandy, champagne, and absinthe. The bar is decorated with old-fashioned pictures of Al Capone and the Prohibition era all over the walls.

Cocktail prices here are very dependent on the ingredients you choose. However, they start at RM45++ for a standard double shot, RM60++ for a triple shot mix and RM70++ for champagne mixes. Although it’s a little more expensive than the rest, it will be worth it all once that mix hits your taste buds.

3. Omakase + Appreciate

This bar is the sole Malaysian entry in Asia’s Best Bars list for both 2016 and 2017. Founded by two topflight Malaysian bartenders, Karl Too and Shawn Chong, this bar is hidden in the basement of an office building behind an electrical switchboard door. The bar would only fit about two dozen people at a time as it is a small bar.

Located in the busy area of Sri Hartamas, this bar serves a specially curated menu of tipples that will impress even the pickiest drinker. The bar is decorated in a medieval theme which is sure to make you feel as though you have been transported to a different country.

Foodies should try The Vault Heist (RM38) which comes with lemongrass-infused with vodka, the Smokey Negroni (RM42) which consists of London dry gin, Italian sweet vermouth, and peated Islay whiskey and the Passion Fruit Martini (RM34) when you visit!

They use a toy train to deliver their shots. Furnished with vintage cushioned seats, this bar gives you a vibe that combines both elegance and mischief.  This bar is all about precision and technique.

The bartenders here perfect the classics with the use of premium and craft spirits. However, the house cocktails are inventive and complex, often consisting of ingredients such as truffle-infused vodka, seaweed agave, and cardamom milk jam. Foodies should try their Pear Pressure (RM60) – a smooth, Christmassy cocktail made with spiced pear liqueur and buttered calvados – when you pay them a visit!

Some of Suzie Wong’s finest cocktails include the Robert Lomax (RM28) which is akin to Negroni with the added twist of Pei Pa (traditional Chinese herbal medicine) giving it a herb-like flavour and The Smoked Old Fashioned (RM 28) – a single malt whiskey, orange zest and bitters.

Suzie Wong is perhaps Kuala Lumpur’s premier and most exclusive cocktail bars and is famed for its constantly changing nightly live jazz and cabaret shows. Perfect if you’re looking to dive into a deeper Chinese vibe for the night!

Some of the recommended include the Bang Pow -hibiscus-infused gin & house-made rose syrup, Jacked Up – gin, jackfruit & mustard, and Mada Asghar – vodka, caramelized apple & dehydrated winter melon. It offers a very intimate and private setting, a far cry from the bustle of many other establishments around TTDI. Private Room’s shelves are stocked with many boutique vintages – expect more than 200 labels in the main hall, over half of which cost under RM200, ideal for people who are looking for a casual drinking night with their friends or for people with a new found interest in wine.
