Check Out The First Listening Café & Bar In The Heart Of Kuala Lumpur

Taking a cue from the jazz-kissa tradition that flourished in post-war Japan and as an homage to V88’s early roots (the first outlet in Chinatown was known as Vintage 1988) – V88 Starhill is an all-day restaurant, café, and listening bar built around the outstanding sound system and music curation located right in the middle of Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle.

V88 Starhill KL Offers A Hidden Oasis To Escape The Hustle & Bustle

“We’re excited to share our vision for V88 Starhill as we want to elevate the casual dining experience and combine it with our passion for music,” said Nicholas Goh, Co-Founder and Director of V88 Starhill. “Our latest outlet is a result of creative collaboration with specialists in their respective fields, from the cocktail menu to interior design, custom carpentry works to our meticulously sourced vintage sound system.”

V88 Starhill is working together with fono, a boutique agency that specialises in music curation and events. As part of The Zhongshan Building art hub, fono is well known for its niche parties, all-vinyl DJ sets, and creative partnerships with international brands and cultural institutions.

“Books, records, films. These things matter” Nicholas playfully quoted John Cusack’s character from High Fidelity, a movie about running a record store. This an apt reference considering that V88 Starhill’s mission is to reintroduce music in the physical format while being located in a bookstore.

V88 Starhill’s specialty is Japanese fusion cuisine, featuring a variety of unique dishes that incorporates Malaysian flavours and ingredients. One of the signature dishes is Yakitori, a Japanese type of skewer with chicken or beef, prepared fresh daily, straight from the grill to your table. Guests can pair their Yakitori with an ice-cold beer for the perfect dining experience.

In addition to their gastronomical offerings, they are extending the operation hours to midnight every Friday and Saturday to feature music-sharing sessions with DJs playing strictly on vinyl and provide a respite from fast-paced lives and an immersive environment for quality conversation.
