Well, if we’re going to come out of this MCO stronger, why not be a better home chef as well. But we know we’re not all cut out to do great things in the kitchen. And sometimes, we just want something quick and easy without the after mess. So, here are some super easy recipes you can try out with just your microwave and a big ol’ mug!

Here Are 8 Super Simple One-Mug Recipes To Try At Home

1. Eggless Mug Cookie

First off, this super simple cookie in a mug recipe is just the right one to start off your journey in becoming a microwave chef. It requires minimal ingredients that you most likely already have at home. This is the perfect pick-me-up dessert to have after a slow and long day.

Ingredients: 4 Tbsp of all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp of baking powder, 1 Tbsp of sugar, 2-3 Tbsp of peanut butter, 1/4 cup of milk, 2 Tbsp of chocolate chips

Step 1: Use a fork to mix flour, baking powder and sugar in a mug.

Step 2: Add in peanut butter and milk. Mix thoroughly til the consistency becomes thick.

Step 3: Pour in the chocolate chips and stir the mixture.

Step 4: Put in high mode on microwave for 1 minute.

2. Chocolate Mug Cake

If you’re living on your own and wondering how on earth you’re going to finish a whole cake by yourself? Well, now you can! With this super simple one-mug chocolate cake, you can have this anytime you feel like having some chocolate indulgence.

Ingredients3 Tbsp all-purpose flour, 2 Tbsp sugar, 2 Tbsp cocoa powder, 1/4 tsp baking powder, 1 pinch of salt, 3 Tbsp milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla essence, 2 Tbsp vegetable oil, 20g milk chocolate chips (you can substitute with 1 Tbsp of Nutella)

Step 1: Mix all dry ingredients in a mug.

Step 2: Next, add in milk, vanilla essence and vegetable oil. Mix all of it thoroughly.

Step 3: Add in the chocolate chips and mix.

Step 4: Microwave mixture for 1.5 minutes.

Step 5: Take mug out and let it cool down for a bit. You can top it off with a sprinkle powdered sugar or chocolate syrup too!

3. Red Velvet Mug Cake

Next, this super adorable red velvet cake in a mug may very well be perfect for Valentine’s or Christmas. Truthfully, no occasion is needed for some mouth-watering desserts. This recipe uses white chocolate but if you’re feeling in the groove, feel free to top it off with cream cheese instead!

Ingredients: 4 Tbsp all-purpose flour, 1/2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 Tbsp granulated sugar, 1/4 tsp baking powder, 1/8 tsp salt, 3 tbsp buttermilk (or yogurt), 1.5 Tbsp vegetable oil, 1/8 tsp red food colouring, 2 tbsp white chocolate chips

Step 1: Mix all the dry ingredients together in a mug.

Step 2: Pour in the buttermilk, vegetable oil and food colouring. Mix in all of them well.

Step 3: Add in the white chocolate chips (you can substitute this by chopping up some white chocolate too).

Step 4: Microwave for 1 minute and 15 seconds.

4. Banana Cake

Since you’re already on the roll of making cakes in mugs, why not try another one? This Banana Mug Cake is not only super easy but it’s incredibly delicious as well! You can have it as desserts or even breakfast tomorrow morning. It’s super healthy too, since this recipe calls for honey instead of sugar.

Ingredients: 1/2 of a medium ripe banana (mashed), 1 Tbsp milk, 1/2 Tbsp vegetable oil, 1/2 Tbsp honey, 3 Tbsp flour, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp baking soda, 1/8 tsp salt

Step 1: Mix thoroughly the mashed banana, milk, vegetable oil and honey in a mug.

Step 2: Proceed to add in all the dry ingredients into the mixture and then mix it all up.

Step 3: If you like a little pizzazz in your banana cake, add in a tbsp of chocolate chip, walnuts or even raisins.

Step 4: Microwave for 50 seconds and it’s done!

5. Chocolate Brownie

Besides that, how could we not include one of the guiltiest indulgence of them all – Chocolate Brownie. All that gooey rich chocolate will make you crave for more after each bite. Typically this recipe calls for any kinds of sugar you have in your house, but adding brown sugar instead will add more crunch to it.

Ingredients: 2 Tbsp brown sugar, 3 Tbsp milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla essence, 3 Tbsp oil (or melted butter), 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour, 3 Tbsp cocoa powder, 1 pinch of salt

Step 1: Mix brown sugar, milk and vanilla essence together in a mug, until sugar dissolves.

Step 2: Add in the rest of the ingredients into the mug and mix till it’s a consistent texture.

Step 3: Microwave for 1 minute.

Step 4: Let it cool for a bit before adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream for added bliss.

6. Mug Pizza

Moving on from the sweets, we have a savoury option that can easily be a meal by itself. This pizza in a mug may very well be a knockoff of an actual pizza. But hold your horses before you judge it, because it tastes exactly like an actual pizza. And, most importantly it’s super delish!

Ingredients: 4 Tbsp flour, 1/4 tsp baking powder, 1/8 pinch of salt, 3 Tbsp milk, 1 Tbsp olive oil, 1 Tbsp marinara tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, cut-up sausages or any toppings of choice

Step 1: Add in all the dry ingredients into the mug and mix.

Step 2: Pour in the olive oil and milk, stir it up thoroughly.

Step 3: Spread the tomato marinara sauce evenly on top of the mixture. Then, top it off with mozzarella cheese, cut-up sausages.

Step 4: Microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds. After that, sprinkle some oregano while letting it cool.

7. Egg Fried Rice

This next one is practically a time saver for a quick lunch or dinner. Since you’re probably on a tight schedule, so it’s best that you have some overnight rice lying around somewhere in the fridge. What’s great about this is that the cleaning up after is fairly minimal as well!

Ingredients: 1 cup of cooked rice, 2 Tbsp of frozen vegetables (or any vegetables of your choice – chopped up), 1 egg, 2 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1 pinch of salt & pepper

Step 1: Place cooked rice into a mug and add vegetables on top of the rice.

Step 2: Cover the mug with a microwave-safe plastic wrap / aluminium foil. Remember to poke a couple holes on top of it before placing it in the microwave for 1 minute.

Step 3: While your rice is in the microwave, you can start preparing the egg. Beat the egg in a separate bowl. Add in the soy sauce, salt and pepper and whisk. (You can even add a dash of sesame oil to make it more fragrant)

Step 4: Once the rice is done, take it out and pour the egg mixture into the mug. Mix the entire thing till it’s evenly spread.

Step 5: Cover the mug with the same plastic wrap / aluminium foil. Microwave it for 1 minute 15 seconds.

Step 6: Leave it alone for 1 minute before digging it in!

8. Omelette

Last but certainly not least, is an easy breakfast option you have prepare in 5 minutes tops. If you’ve been craving for omelettes in the morning, but can’t even cook a proper egg without burning it – then this is for you. Although the microwaving process is a little tedious than the ones above, but the end result is worth it!

Ingredients: 2 eggs, 1 Tbsp olive oil, 1 Tbsp milk, 1 Tbsp cheddar cheese , 1 Tbsp of chopped red bell pepper, 1 tsp green onions, pinch of salt & pepper

Step 1: Beat the eggs, olive oil and milk with a fork.

Step 2: Add in the cheese, red bell pepper or any fillings of your desire. Mix, mix and mix!

Step 3: Place the mixture in the microwave for 30 seconds, then take it out and stir it a bit. Repeat this step till the egg sets.

Step 4: After microwaving for 2-3 times for 30 secs each, it’s done! You can add on any toppings of your choice.

*Important note* The microwave used for these recipes are 1000W to 1200W, hence the time may vary depending on the power of your microwave.
