Jeremy’s Chicks: Delivery-Based Chicken Rice Braves Through The Pandemic With A Cloud Kitchen

The first-ever MCO was tough for many restaurant and cafe owners. With dine-in not allowed for a long duration, most of them rely heavily on takeaways, and food delivery platforms to stay afloat. During and after MCO, many cafes and restaurants have to bid farewell to their communities. As reported by The Star, since March last year, more than 2,000 eateries nationwide had to cease operations.

Throughout the period of the first-ever MCO, some restaurants and cafes took the opportunity to be creative in order to mitigate financial losses. While some spots offer new menu sets, others introduced home kits for potential customers to make their own dishes at home. The team behind Urban Daybreak (Bangsar) took an entirely different route than the rest.

It started a delivery-based chicken rice joint. Understanding that chicken rice is a Malaysian staple, the team wanted to offer comfort food delivered to doorsteps through food delivery platforms. Started in the same kitchen that produces signature dishes such as Fried Chicken Waffle and Avocado Smash, the team has moved to a cloud kitchen soon after.

Led by two co-founders, Jeremy and Adran, the management team believed that cloud kitchen is the next step in the food and beverage industry. No doubt, it was the right move. At the same time, it was reported that cloud kitchen is gaining traction within the country. In other news, many other cloud kitchens and food delivery platforms have opened in close proximity.

Despite having experience in running cafes, the team behind Jeremy’s Chicks knew for a fact that starting a cloud kitchen during a pandemic has a different set of challenges. It requires a little more creativity. To be more engaging, it has tapped into the community by offering a free box of chicken rice to Abang Grab(s), highlighting other chicken rice stalls, and delivering chicken rice to an orphanage.

Jeremy’s Chicks has also been expanding its menu with seasonal offerings. Apart from its bestselling chicken dishes, it has seasonal offerings such as Roasted Chicken Set with interesting side dishes for Christmas. For the upcoming Chinese New Year, the team offers Abundance Abalone Chicken Rice. For RM28, it comes with two juicy abalones, mushrooms, and bok choy with its signature poached chicken rice.
