We’ve seen tons of photos showing off grocers and convenience stores closing their non-essential goods sections circulating on social media. This includes taping off shelves of stationery, hair dyes, creams, and alcohol. The outrage on social media led to a clarification from NSC.

According to Sin Chew Daily, NSC director-general Datuk Mohd Rabin Basir said it is not a problem for these stores to sell any goods they have on the shelves. NSC added that there has been a misunderstanding.

Convenience stores, grocers, and mini markets are categorized as essential so they’re allowed to operate. Hence, all items they have in-store are allowed to operate.

“It must be stressed here that stores selling only liquor products are not allowed to operate,” said Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Meaning to say, if your business is listed as essential, then you’re allowed to operate and sell all the products that you have.

This also includes online shopping, as the SOPs categorized e-commerce (all product categories) as essential during the lockdown. Therefore, there is no limit to the type of items purchasable online.

Foodies, we hope this clarifies the current situation. Don’t forget to share this news out to avoid further confusion. That’s all, stay safe, take care and buh bye!
