PPV Volunteer Shares Heartbreaking Encounter With Foreign Workers & Encourages Malaysians To Be Nice

Malaysia has recorded a new high of 20,889 cases as of today. In order to reach herd immunity, the government has made efforts to encourage foreign workers and migrants to come forward for the vaccine. A volunteer at Pusat Pemberian Vaksin (PPV) recently shared his encounter with migrant workers. Many came forward with fear of getting arrested, their hands were even shaking while being asked to scan MySejahtera or fill up the form. He encouraged Malaysians that the least we can do is give them a smile or show kindness to them.

It’s heartbreaking to see that due to language barrier and different nationalities, foreign workers and migrants are often an easy target for mistreatment. A Malaysian author, Iman Danial Hakim who volunteers at the PPV shared his experience dealing with foreign workers on Twitter.

There are thousands of people getting vaccinated at the centre each day. He admitted that sometimes it can be frustrating when the foregin workers or migrants do not understand him due to language barrier because he needs to speed things up. What is easy for us isn’t for them. Most of the time their hands are shaking in fear when asked to present their MySejahtera or vaccination form. That is a sign that they’ve been frequently criticised.

One of them came forward to Iman with a passport. In the photo, the guy looked chubby and healthy, yet in person, he was thin and malnourished. So he asked if the food in Malaysia is not delicious, and what the foreign worker replied next shocked him. Apparently he hasn’t been working for three months, and is struggling for his meals.

“Okay Bhai (brother), you take the vaccine, keep your body healthy, I pray that you’ll land a job with a decent pay in the future. You’ll get to eat more.”

“Thank you boss, thank you boss.”

This really shows how a small gesture would brighten up someone’s day. If you couldn’t offer help, the least we can do is to smile and show kindness to them.

Kindness Is A Common Duty, We’re Human After All:

Being kind to others is and should be a common practice since the beginning of time. Not only to foreign workers, but to everyone around us. Regardless of nationality and skin tone, we’re human. Let us all be kind to one another even in tough times. That’s all, take care, and buh bye.
